The Pilot Vanishing Retractable Fountain Pen is an graceful and enduring gift, to commemorate a special occasion or accomplishment, or even as a well-deserved reward for yourself. The brilliant retractable design and ingenuous engineering science of the primary Vanishing Point fountain pen have been reborn in refined, sophisticated style with a larger size, lasting metal body and beautiful rhodium accents. Packaged in a presentation-ready navy blue gift box. A pen with a history, the Vanishing Point was in the first place launched in Japan in the early 1960's. The pen was in the first place called Capless and had one of the most complex inner mechanisms ever made. The twist-retractable nib action was a noteworthy innovation, making the Capless a veritably sensational pen. Later, an economy Capless version with push-button retraction was introduced for students. By the late 1960's the Capless fountain pen had disappeared, but found it is renaissance as the Vanishing Point in the 1970's. A Namiki-branded version of the Vanishing Point became a veritable James Bond must-have pen in the mid 1990's. Another page of Vanishing Point history was turned with the introduction, in 1999 of the current, break-through version of this awful fountain pen.

How do you rate the best !?

Some of the reviews I've written required much research. This is the exception. The Namiki Vanishing Point Fountain Pen genuinely does have a nib (point) which totally retracts inside the pen-- It is the finest fountain pen I've used in 30 years of being totally immersed (no pun intended) in the world of "Écriture d'Élégance" (ie refined and tasteful writing). Yes, I know all when it comes to the "other brands" like: Montblancs (not good for heavy handed persons such as myself). Same for Parker (too drab), Dupont (too pricey), Cross (cheap), Pelikans (they leak-even the highpriced ones), Waterman (so-so). I've tried all of the aforementioned, but always came back to Namiki, which is why I now have three of them, all with dissimilar types of nibs. And speaking of nibs (the point which actually does all the work). Although Namiki makes a wondrous flexible gold nib, I love italics and calligraphic writing styles. The beauty of the Namiki is that habit nibs for this pen are far more comfortable to obtain than others. There are assorted very splendid pen craftsmen with internet sites access who will genuinely measure incisively the way you write and fit you with the proper habit machined Namiki nib. Why Namiki? Ah, that's the beauty of it all. Because this is the ONLY fountain pen which has all of it's "guts" in one little lowpriced package. The pen is over $100. but that is actually inexpensive equated to some of the brands which run well over $1,000 for ONE fountain pen. However, the entire nib assembly--everything, may be substituted for amid $30-$40. That, in my opinion, is well worth the price of this pen. Also, I have NEVER had this pen (in any of my three Namikis) leak. Replacing the cartridge or filling from a bottle is peculiarly carefree and easy . I would advise using the terrifi Namiki cartridges which may be changed in a few seconds requiring little effort than ball points. I'm ambidextrous, but favour my left hand. The Namiki is fantasti both for left or right handed writing. In short, don't just sit there--go out and get one of these outstanding fountain pens--and yes you may still write through carbonless copies.

Bliss!

This is the best pen I have ever owned. The line from it's nib is fabulously fine and dries speedily for documents free of smears and streaks. Cartridges and converters make refilling fantastically easy and the ink reserve lasts through the prodigious amounts I write thanks to my company's rather luddite leanings. I have purchased various of these pens as gifts for friends and may only give my most eminent recommendation.

Great gift

I got this pen as a gift. It writes well and looks good doing it. It fact it is a premium pen I use everyday. It devised a "clicking" problem, after all I did a lot of it, to show how it works. I had it send in for repairs. It was covered by warranty, without receipt. It came back repaired with a new ink cartridge, a nice touch. Great pen. Classy company.

A classic fountain pen - great for lefties

Since I was young, I had astounding handwriting. No matter how I tried, nor what writing instrument I used, my handwriting was terrible. My teachers, parents and even my classmates and friends would comment and lecture me on how very difficult if not out of the question it was to comprehend my scribble. To make matters worse, I write left handed and oftentimes I would smear my words with my left pinky making my bad writing even worse. It was the story of my life and I merely accepted my fate of unreadable handwriting and even printing.

Good Product

Good product. May want to buy a bottle of ink as it only comes with one cartridge. Had original issues with getting the ink to flow and write well... but once the issues resolved, outstanding pen.

solid value

While it's not rather the MkI Sonnet of 15 years ago it is 1/3 the price. And while the S/S nib isn't rather the pleasure that the 18k unit is, it is a solid pen and a very good value. Highly recommended.

Parkers are the nicest writing inexpensive pen. I have worn the stainless steel finish through to the brass on various pens and decisive to spend a little extra for this one rather of a Jotter. It feels like a solid block of metal. It is very stable and nice and heavy. I was a little worried that the extra weight would tire out my hand but it hasn't troubled my hand in an 8-hour day. It holds the refill securely so there is not a clickity sentiment like with a cheap pen.

Great lowpriced pen

This pen writes genuinely well and it comfortable to hold because it is thicker than average. I like the fact that you may get high quality refills for it. And I prefer a standard retractable pen, I just don't like twisting pens or caps (which I would lose or they would come off in my bag and grant the pen to make a mess). I find this pen looks a bit more sophisticated and imagination than the black 1M. But I the pen is not made of stainless steel. It sure is made of numerous sort of metal; you may tell by the weight and the fact that pen is cold like metal would be. But whatsoever metal it is made of, it appears to have silver paint on it and I am marveling how long it will take to rub off.

Leaks

I like this pen, It's very comfortable to write with, but I can not carry it with me because it continually leaks in my pocket. I carry two other pens, and haven't had a problem with either of them, but this one will not stop leaking.

Black fountain-pen ink; not for checks

This ink is OK on bad paper, but test your paper for two-sided writing with this ink. If these cartridges do not say "SLOVENIA" on them, they have Sheaffer's old ink formula, a "medium" black color. If these cartridges say "SLOVENIA" on them, they have the new formula, which is an improved, "medium-dark" black color. It is water-resistant sufficient for addresses on envelopes and package labels, but not safe for writing checks. It is frequent with fountain-pen enthusiasts.

A great ink for outstanding pens

On a sure level ink is ink - how much more may you say regarding it? There surely are questions of durability, strength, permanence (also known as washability), and the tendency to bleed through a typical sheet of paper. On those counts Sheaffer Skrip is outstanding, particularly in terms of durability and strength. What I exceptionally like when it comes to Sheaffer's Skrip is that it is less likely to bleed through a sheet of paper to show on the other side. As far as washability/permanence goes, both brands may be got out by pre-treating with Simple Green or hairspray (or both). Better still, Skrip works fine in my Sheaffer cartridge style fountain pens, but likewise a heap of of the later production Esterbrook fountain pens. And more significantly Skrip is available in a far wider assortment of colors than other cartridge-style pens (and their own bottled ink!) including turquoise, purple, orange, green, and brown. This gives writers a broader palate to express themselves, something to think regarding if you like writing with a little flair! While that won't likely lead to a renaissance of fountain pens, it surely could liven up your every day writing. And thank heavens for online retailers, as these cartridges are getting harder and harder to find in merchants who sells goods at retail outside of stationary stores and pen shops.

A nice, medium-black ink, reasonably well-behaved

This ink is darker than the Montblanc and Lamy black inks, and it is lighter than Noodler's and Pelikan/Cross black inks. This ink is safe for old pens (easy to clean out even after drying up, and almost pH neutral). It is very good at not feathering on bad paper, but test your bad paper for two-sided writing with this ink. This ink is not very water-resistant, and it is not safe for writing checks.
