Bic pens are quality and this is a outstanding price for them. You may count on each pen to work until the ink runs out.

This is a outstanding buy if all you need is a lot basic pens. I do a lot of writing but I tend to lose pens nonstop - so I stashed a bunch of these around the house. Works for me!

Retractable Fountain Pens

Retractable Fountain Pens

The Pilot Vanishing Retractable Fountain Pen is an refined and tasteful and enduring gift, to commemorate a particular occasion or accomplishment, or even as a well-deserved reward for yourself. The brilliant retractable design and ingenuous engineering science of the original Vanishing Point fountain pen have been reborn in refined, sophisticated style with a larger size, lasting metal body and beautiful rhodium accents. Packaged in a presentation-ready navy blue gift box. A pen with a history, the Vanishing Point was in the first place launched in Japan in the early 1960's. The pen was in the first place called Capless and had one of the most complex inner mechanisms ever made. The twist-retractable nib action was a remarkable innovation, making the Capless a genuinely sensational pen. Later, an economy Capless version with push-button retraction was introduced for students. By the late 1960's the Capless fountain pen had disappeared, but found it is renaissance as the Vanishing Point in the 1970's. A Namiki-branded version of the Vanishing Point became a veritable James Bond must-have pen in the mid 1990's. Another page of Vanishing Point history was turned with the introduction, in 1999 of the current, break-through version of this amazing fountain pen.

star50 tpng Retractable Fountain PensHow do you rate the best !?
By K. Mahood, Ph D
Some of the reviews I've written required much research. This is the exception. The Namiki Vanishing Point Fountain Pen in truth does have a nib (point) which to a complete degree retracts inside the pen-- It is the finest fountain pen I've used in 30 years of being exclusively immersed (no pun intended) in the world of "Écriture d'Élégance" (ie graceful writing). Yes, I recognise all regarding the "other brands" like: Montblancs (not good for heavy handed people such as myself). Same for Parker (too drab), Dupont (too pricey), Cross (cheap), Pelikans (they leak-even the pricey ones), Waterman (so-so). I've tried all of the aforementioned, but always came back to Namiki, which is why I now have three of them, all with dissimilar types of nibs. And speaking of nibs (the point which in truth does all the work). Although Namiki makes a fantasti flexible gold nib, I love italics and calligraphic writing styles. The beauty of the Namiki is that habit nibs for this pen are far more comfortable to obtain than others. There are various very splendid pen craftsmen with web sites access who will in truth measure incisively the way you write and fit you with the proper habit machined Namiki nib. Why Namiki? Ah, that's the beauty of it all. Because this is the ONLY fountain pen which has all of it's "guts" in one little lowpriced package. The pen is over $100. but that is genuinely inexpensive equated to galore of the brands which run well over $1,000 for ONE fountain pen. However, the entire nib assembly--everything, may be substituted for amongst $30-$40. That, in my opinion, is well worth the price of this pen. Also, I have NEVER had this pen (in any of my three Namikis) leak. Replacing the cartridge or filling from a bottle is peculiarly carefree and easy . I would advise using the terrifi Namiki cartridges which may be changed in a few seconds requiring little effort than ball points. I'm ambidextrous, but favour my left hand. The Namiki is fantasti both for left or right handed writing. In short, don't just sit there--go out and get one of these great fountain pens--and yes you may still write through carbonless copies.

By Tribalblue
This is the best pen I have ever owned. The line from it's nib is fantastically fine and dries speedily for documents free of smears and streaks. Cartridges and converters make refilling fantastically easy and the ink reserve lasts through the prodigious amounts I write thanks to my company's rather luddite leanings. I have purchased various of these pens as gifts for friends and may only give my most eminent recommendation.

star50 tpng Retractable Fountain PensGreat gift
By A. Kemel
I got this pen as a gift. It writes well and looks good doing it. It fact it is a premium pen I use everyday. It produced a "clicking" problem, after all I did a lot of it, to show how it works. I had it send in for repairs. It was covered by warranty, without receipt. It came back repaired with a new ink cartridge, a nice touch. Great pen. Classy company.

star40 tpng Buy Fountain Pens OnlineShockingly good for a disposable!
By G. A. Jandl
I picked up a couple Varsity pens as a lark a few weeks ago. When I got rid of the pen from it is packaging, I immediatly noticed how light the pen is. I personally am a fan of light pens. Heavy ones may seem impressive when capped, but I find them suboptimal for actual use; they drag your pocket down and cause hand fatigue after long use, or even moderate use if the pen is not utterly balanced. Much of the point of writing with a fountain pen, to me anyway, is their ease and expressiveness.

When I posted the cap and took the pen for a spin, I was shocked! Frankly, I was expecting a scratchy, skippy horrorshow of a writing experience. Instead, I was treated to a smooth, somewhat expressive line of dark black. The point could be a bit finer. It's marked 'M', and advertised as "fine", which is reasonably accurate, as Pilot nibs seem to run to the fine side.

My only real gripe with the pen itself is that the "clip" is rather closely worthless. The ink window may or may not be worthless, as well ... either that, or the ink capacity is exceptional. Granted, though the pen has seen every day use, it hasn't been *heavily* used, because of the one severe gripe I have.

The ink, altho dark and somewhat quick drying, isn't even permanent sufficient to address envelopes, let alone write anything genuinely important. I would in particular caution versus writing any checks using this pen! Granted, the tremendous majority of fountain pen ink is regarding as waterproof as tissue. None the less, given that the pen is not refillable (not withstanding the hacks a good deal of have attempted), it would have been nice for Pilot to use a more lasting ink.

Finally, I can't help but comment on te inDUHvidual under who gave the very low review because "they are tipped with Pilot's trademark rollerball". This makes it clear (as if the rest of the review did not) that this person has perfectly no clue when it comes to fountain pens. Virtually all fountain pens have a little steel ball welded to the nib. This happens before the nib is split, so the "ball" is genuinely two halves. On a cheap steel tip like the Varsity, it's not such a big deal -- it basically makes it posing no difficulty to create a smooth writing pen. But on a gold tipped pen (as most are over $150 or so), it's vital, or the point would wear in no time.

star50 tpng Buy Fountain Pens OnlineGreat, smooth writing fountain pen!
By Linda
I use fountain pens everyday, so I recognise what I am talking about: This is a great fountain pen for every day writing -- one that you will not care gets lost or damaged due to it is very low price (unlike the intermediate (non fixed edition) fountain pens, which may cost over $100 -- and occasionally much more). The Pilot Varsity pen lays down a outstanding fine-to-medium line of ink, and the nib (IE: the writing tip) does not arid out too fast when left uncapped -- and the pen seems to write for a limitless time with it is huge internal ink reservoir. Fantastic buy; and with no muss-'n-fuss of having to refill the pen either! [One of the reviewers under stated that these Varsity pens are not "real fountain pens" but are "in fact ballpoint pens": This is NOT unfeigned in the slightest, so I assume the writer of that review ought to have gotten his pens confused, since all of the Pilot Varsity pens are perfectly TRUE fountain pens.]

star40 tpng Pens SheafferSmooth ink flow, cheap refills
By Jonathan Aquino
I rather like these italic pens:
- cheap refills
- smooth ink flow
- 3 dissimilar nib widths
- effortlessly see ink remaining
- comfy, round grip (unlike the Lamy Safari)

I'm using it in conjunction with the book "The Italic Way to Beautiful Handwriting" by Fred Eager - a good match.

==========

Update 2007-08-26

I'd like to knock this down to 3 stars. The lines become inconsistent (i.e, rather thin) on sure pages of my Moleskine notebook. In contrast, my Lamy Safari pen is perfectly consistent.

So I'd get both - the Sheaffers with it is assortment of nibs, for calligraphy practice, and the more pricey Lamy Safari (1.1-mm nib) for writing for pleasure.

star50 tpng Pens SheafferBetter than the costly ones....
By Calliman
I am a severe penman, and do a great deal of calligraphy for weddings, particular occasions, and other indispensable events. I have a number of rather highpriced calligraphy pens but none of them lend themselves to a rapid, smooth style. The problem is the ink flow. The little Sheaffer pens have a nice, steady and consistent ink flow and concede the calligrapher to fabricate nice flourishes and lettering without hesitation. If you "draw" your lettering, then the costly pens are worth it. If you work for pay, then go with the Sheaffer...!!

star50 tpng Pens SheafferNice, Simple Set
By Zoe Cordillian
I got my set for $10 at Hobby Lobby if you're mesmerized in this product. It was a great remainder of what I wanted in a fountain pen - three dissimilar thicknesses (although I prefer the finest one) and four colors. It took me a minute to figure out the ink cartridges (one is not in the pen when you get it), but once collected it writes with no problems or difficulties and easily. I'm not a severe calligrapher or anything, I just wanted a nice pen for formal, personal letters and this product fits nicely for me.
